Everlasting Thanks

What I have done is worthy of nothing but silence and forgetfulness, but what God has done for me is worthy of everlasting and thankful memory.

Highest Appreciation

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the  highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them

– John F.  Kennedy

I’m posting this excellent quote today from one US President to mark the 2nd inauguration of another – President Barack Obama.

Four years ago I watched his 1st inauguration and was overwhelmed by the history-in-the-making moment. The raw emotion might also have had something to do with the fact that I was half asleep, actually a little exhausted. I watched the goings-on in Washington DC from a hotel room in Christchurch, New Zealand, as I came to the end of a fantastic month’s holiday which had also taken me to Australia.

I had set my alarm to be sure I was awake to watch the goings-on in Washington DC – Christchurch is 18 hours ahead of DC so it all kicked off around 5am! Truth be told, though, I actually was awake most of the night, determined not to miss the historic event.  Much coffee was drunk that night!

I was enthralled! I was encouraged! I’m aware that some of his policies have caused division in the USA and I’m also obviously looking on as an observer, but reflecting on President Obama’s first inaugural address, I am still inspired by his motives to create a fairer society:

‘We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.’

(President Barack Obama 1st Inaugural Address Jan 20 2009)

So today I’ll be watching again. Not from a hot New Zealand in the beautiful Hotel Grand Chancellor, sadly no longer with us since that hotel was one of the victims of the devastating February 2011 earthquake. It was a real treat for me to be there in five star luxury as I ended my Down Under sojourn. Happy memories!

Today I’ll be in a snowy UK. Watching via the magic that is TV from the comfort of my own lounge. Just 5 hours difference!

I’ll be listening intently to the President’s words and wishing him God’s blessings!

God’s Will

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus

– 1 Thessalonians 5:18

It’s just amazing how sometimes, when you think life is about to unravel, God just steps in and makes his presence clearly know. When you spent months on the edge and looking into a chasm of uncertainty, He is true to his word and offers a solution. It’s hard to keep believing at times, but I’m proving right now that keeping faithful through difficult times is vital.

Today I want to say ‘Thanks God! You’re Awesome!’

(Today’s verse is from the Bible, New Testament New International Version)

New Beginning

When things go wrong one after another, to experience some goodness in things, situations or people, and spontaneously feel grateful, is a passover from death to Life, a refreshing new beginning

— Pius Thekemury from Personal Reflections

Ok, so sometimes life is hard. It’s true what people say – if one thing is going to go haywire then it’ll be followed by a few more. Being really honest, the past few days have been like that for me. Who decided that when one piece of equipment dies, several other items also have to break? Yes, it’s been one of those weeks and it’s left my already rather empty purse even emptier. Not good.

BUT as I’ve been posting all these thanks thoughts for the past year I’ve learnt one thing if nothing else. Whatever is going on around me I can find something to be grateful for.  I am determined not to let circumstances get me down. I’m going to find something to be thankful for, rather than get depressed. So I can give thanks that I got a great deal on the new computer and on the associated printer, which also takes cheaper ink than the broken thing now sitting in the trash. And I can give thanks that I managed to find the funds, which means I can continue working to try to make the money to fill up the purse (computer required in my line – writing and PR etc). And I can give thanks in anticipation that things are going to look up in the very near future.

How’s That?

I feel better already.

No resistance!

When you are praising, when you are appreciating, when you are acknowledging value, when you are looking for positive aspects, when you are laughing, when you are applauding, when you are joyous, when you are feeling that feeling of appreciation pulsing through you, in those times, there IS NO RESISTANCE within you. You are, in those moments, vibrationally up to speed with who you really are

Look Forward

Let us learn to appreciate there will be times when the trees will be bare, and look forward to the time when we may pick the fruit

The Greatest Blessings

True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing.

The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not

― Seneca

Lucius Annaeus Seneca (The Younger), ca. 4 BC – 65 AD, was born into a wealthy family in present-day Córdoba, Spain. He was a Roman Stoic philosopher, statesman, orator and dramatist.

Accept Wisdom Gratefully

If people offer their help or wisdom as you go through life, accept it gratefully. You can learn much from those who have gone before you.

But never be afraid or hesitant to step off the accepted path and head off in your own direction, if your heart tells you that it’s the right way for you.

Always believe that you will ultimately succeed at whatever you do, and never forget the value of persistence, discipline, and determination.

You are meant to be whatever you dream of becoming.
